About Rich Bader

You could say I’ve earned my salt and pepper hair (too salty!) with over 30 years in high tech. I started with minicomputers at Digital Equipment, first teaching about them, then getting into product marketing for Laboratory systems. Then on to the microprocessor and PC revolution at Intel, first with Multibus boards, and later having the chance to co-found and co-manage the PC Enhancement Operation with Jim Johnson. That was quite a ride! Anyone remember Above Board and LIM/EMS? Now, for over 10 years, I’ve been at EasyStreet Online Services in the Internet world.

I’ve always been a geek; I fixed TV sets when I was in high school. I also enjoy people. Somehow I became challenged by business, and measuring my success with finding ways to innovate, satisfy customers, and build successful companies. I lived the globetrotting high tech lifestyle for years at DEC and Intel, and then consulting for numerous companies around the country for four years after leaving Intel in 1990. EasyStreet is my way of having my high tech cake, and getting to eat it in my own bed every night. I really enjoy doing business in the Portland metro area, with the rewards of deeper community roots.

I guess I’ve become kind of a sucker for joining groups. I’m on a bunch of boards and committees. Currently, I’m on the SAO Board and Executive Committee, and I was appointed by Gov. Kulongowski to the Oregon Growth Account board. I was also recently appointed to the Open Technology Business Center, aka, the Beaverton incubator.
I’ve got a bit of a life outside of work. Even after I leave the office, I’m playing around with computer stuff at home. I enjoys Oregon’s wines, Cycle Oregon, and playing guitar. Oh yeah, I’ve got a wife, a daughter Emily, and a married stepson, Derek, in North Carolina.
I went to Brooklyn Tech High School (in hindsight, it was a tremendous school) and I got a BSEE from Northeastern University. Boston rocked in the early 70’s!
